Face and Neck Lift
A face and neck lift repositions sagging skin and the supporting tissue beneath it along the cheeks, jawline and neck. Tightening the deeper layer as well as the skin gives a fresher result that still looks like you.

What a Facelift Addresses
With age the skin of the lower face loses elasticity, fat drifts downward and the supporting layer under the skin, known as the SMAS, slackens. The result is a softer jawline, drooping at the corners of the mouth, loose neck skin and vertical bands in the neck. A modern facelift lifts this supporting layer as well as the skin, which is why the result looks natural rather than pulled.
Who It Suits
The deciding factor is the degree of sagging rather than age, although most patients are in middle age or older. Candidates should be in good health with realistic expectations. For mild, early sagging, a liquid facelift or thread lift may be enough, but these cannot replace surgery once sagging is advanced. Surgery is postponed for uncontrolled blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease, bleeding disorders, and for anyone who cannot stop smoking, because smoking sharply raises the risk of skin healing problems.
How the Operation Is Done
The operation takes about three and a half hours under general anesthesia or deep sedation, with one or two nights in hospital. The incision starts in the hair of the temple, follows the natural creases in front of the ear and continues behind it toward the hairline. The supporting layer is tightened upward and backward and the excess skin is removed without tension; loose neck bands and fat under the chin can be treated through a small incision under the chin. Planning is done by plastic surgeon Op. Dr. Toygar Ünveren at our Etiler clinic.
Recovery
Swelling, bruising and tightness in the face and neck are expected in the first days, and a small drain may be used briefly. Sleeping with your head raised and avoiding sudden head movements help. Stitches usually come out between one and two weeks, most people feel ready for social life after about two weeks, and the last mild swelling settles over a few months. Temporary numbness around the ears and cheeks is normal.
Risks to Discuss
The most common early problem is a blood collection under the skin, which may need prompt treatment. Infection, visible scarring, reduced blood supply to the skin, changes to the hairline and, rarely, temporary or permanent effects on the facial nerves are also possible. Rapid one-sided swelling, severe pain or difficulty breathing after surgery need urgent care.
Planning Your Trip to Istanbul
If you are traveling from abroad, the first consultation can be held remotely before you book your trip, so you arrive with a clear plan. With one or two nights in hospital and stitches removed between one and two weeks, plan a longer stay than for smaller procedures; the exact length is agreed with your surgeon.
