Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation increases breast volume and improves shape with silicone implants placed behind the breast tissue or the chest muscle. Implant type and size are chosen together at the consultation to suit your chest and frame.

What Augmentation Can Do
Women ask about breast augmentation for breasts that never developed much volume, for volume lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss, and for a noticeable size difference between the two sides. The aim is not simply to add volume but to reach a proportion that fits your chest width, shoulders and existing breast tissue. If the breasts also sag significantly, augmentation can be combined with a breast lift in the same operation.
Who It Suits
It suits healthy women whose breast development is complete. Depending on age and risk factors, a breast ultrasound or mammogram may be requested beforehand. Surgery is not done during pregnancy or breastfeeding, when a breast lump has not been assessed, during an active infection or with an uncontrolled long-term illness. If you are planning a pregnancy soon, timing is discussed separately.
How the Operation Is Done
The operation takes about an hour under general anesthesia, followed by one night in hospital. The incision is most often placed in the fold beneath the breast, and sometimes around the areola or in the armpit. The implant goes behind the breast tissue, behind the chest muscle or in a combined plane depending on your skin and tissue thickness, and round or teardrop shapes are chosen according to the look you want, using measurements and trial sizers. Planning is done by plastic surgeon Op. Dr. Toygar Ünveren at our Etiler clinic.
Recovery
Tightness, swelling and tenderness in the chest are normal for the first days and can feel stronger when the implant sits behind the muscle. A supportive surgical bra is worn for several weeks. Most women return to desk work after about a week, while heavy lifting, arm-intensive movements and exercise wait a few weeks. The implants take a few months to settle into their final position.
Risks and Implant Care
Possible problems include bleeding, infection, changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry and visible scarring. Implant-related issues such as hardening around the implant (capsular contracture), shifting or rupture can need further surgery later, so implants are not considered lifelong devices and regular check-ups are advised. A rare lymphoma associated with textured implants (BIA-ALCL) is also explained before surgery. Many women can still breastfeed afterwards, and mammograms remain possible if you mention your implants.
Planning Your Trip to Istanbul
If you are traveling from abroad, the first consultation can be held remotely before you book your trip, so you arrive with a clear plan. After one night in hospital, plan to stay until your first follow-up check; your surgeon confirms when you can fly and when the post-operative bra can be changed.
