Brazilian Butt Lift and Buttock Surgery
Buttock surgery changes the volume, shape or position of the buttocks. The options are a Brazilian butt lift using your own fat, silicone buttock implants, or a lift that removes sagging skin; the right one depends on your build and how much fat you have.

Three Different Approaches
In a Brazilian butt lift (BBL), fat is taken by liposuction from areas such as the waist, abdomen or back, processed and injected under the skin of the buttocks, slimming the surrounding areas while adding volume. Buttock implants use a silicone implant placed within or beneath the muscle through an incision near the crease between the buttocks. A buttock lift removes sagging skin and fat through an incision along the upper edge of the buttocks.
Who It Suits
Buttock surgery suits healthy adults with a stable weight who are bothered by flat, small or uneven buttocks, or by sagging after weight loss. Fat transfer needs enough fat elsewhere on the body; for slim patients the implant option is discussed. Surgery is not done during pregnancy, with uncontrolled heart, vascular disease or diabetes, with a history of blood clots, or while weight is changing rapidly.
How the Operation Is Done
All three operations are done under general anesthesia in hospital. As a guide, fat transfer takes about an hour and a half with one night in hospital, while implants or a lift take two to three hours with two nights in hospital. Because fat embolism is a rare but serious risk linked to injecting fat into the muscle or near large vessels, fat is placed only in the layer under the skin. Fat distribution, skin elasticity and muscle shape are assessed with plastic surgeon Op. Dr. Toygar Ünveren before the method is chosen.
Recovery
After a BBL you will be asked not to sit directly on your buttocks for the first weeks and to wear a compression garment, to protect the blood supply of the transferred fat. Part of the fat is reabsorbed in the first months, so the lasting volume becomes clear after a few months. Recovery after implants or a lift takes longer, and your surgeon's advice on sitting and sleeping positions is especially important.
Risks to Discuss
With every method, bleeding, infection, fluid collection, asymmetry and scarring problems can occur. With fat transfer, more fat than expected may be absorbed and oil cysts or firm areas can form; with implants, shifting, hardening and wound opening are the main concerns; with a lift, a wide scar. Shortness of breath, chest pain, one-sided leg swelling or a high fever after surgery need urgent care.
Planning Your Trip to Istanbul
If you are traveling from abroad, the first consultation can be held remotely before you book your trip, so you arrive with a clear plan. Because sitting is restricted after a BBL, discuss your flight home and seating with your surgeon before you book.
